Information on the Adobe ETLA contract extension from 23.11.2025
Please note that there will be a follow-up contract for the current Adobe Creative Cloud license from 23.11.2025. We are currently preparing the corresponding renewal and will make the licenses available in the software store as soon as possible. There will be no loss of your current licenses at any time.
If your work process allows it, please refrain from ordering the current license. This must be paid in full by 22.11.2025. Credit notes etc. for the period from 23.11.2025 are not possible.
Adobe Acrobat will continue to be available free of charge for employees. No action is required on your part.
Which license is right for your purpose?
Is the device a personal workstation owned by the university or a private device used for official purposes?
- Please choose the personal license (Named User License)
Is the devices used in a computer room or laboratory, which is administered and used by several people?
- Please choose the device based license (Shared Device License)
- Note: Use is only permitted in the UKLAN (without VPN and WIFI). Administrator knowledge is required for updates and installation.

Activation:
Adobe enforces the use of personal user IDs to activate the software. If you do not wish to do so, you can no longer use the products and must use alternative products (a list of possible alternatives to Adobe products can be found on the Leibniz Computing Center website).
Otherwise, an individual user account ("Adobe Federated ID") will be created for you when you complete your order. For further information, please refer to the data protection information in the online-software shop and the installation instructions.
An Adobe Federated ID is also required to use shared-device-licenses. If you want to use the Adobe products on a licensed device, you can order the free article "User account Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps (SDL)" in the online-software shop.

The right of use can be assigned either to a specific person or a specific device:
Named User License (NUL) (item no.: 645202):
- Each license must be assigned to a specific person. A separate license is required for each person. People who have been assigned a license can then use the software on different devices.
- If the licensed person leaves the University of Cologne, the license can be assigned to another person for the remaining term of the contract.
- To activate the software, you need an individual user account ("Adobe Federated ID").
- These are rental licenses. The right of use ends on 22.11.2025.
- The licenses must be rented for the entire duration of the contract.
- The Adobe offer is subject to the terms and conditions of the Adobe Enterprise Term License Agreement.
Shared Device License (SDL) (item no.: 645203):
Please note: This type of license is intended for shared workstations. For example, laboratory, computer pool or room devices. For use on your personal device, please always use the person-bound licenses!
- Can only be used on the campus of the University of Cologne in the UKLAN (without VPN and WIFI)
- Each license is assigned to a specific device and can be used on this device by different people. For each device, a separate license is required.
- An Adobe Federated ID is required to use device-bound licenses. If you want to use the Adobe products on a licensed device, you can order the free article "Use of device-bound licenses" in the online software shop.
- These are rental licenses. The right of use ends on 22.11.2025.
- The licenses must be rented for the entire duration of the contract.
- The Adobe offer is subject to the terms and conditions of the Adobe Enterprise Term License Agreement, specifically the Shared Device License:
"During the License Term, Adobe grants to Subscriber the non-transferable right to use the Products and Services in teaching and learning spaces within Subscriber's institution in accordance with the terms of the Master Agreement and the license metric and quantity specified in the Initial Order. The Products may be installed only on computers over which Participant has sole actual control, regardless of ownership."
Use of device-bound-license (item no.: 645204):
- Each person needs an individual user account ("Adobe Federated ID")
- Licensed persons can use the software on any licensed device.
- These are rental licenses. The right of use ends on 22.11.2025.
- The licenses must be rented for the entire duration of the contract.
- The Adobe offer is subject to the terms and conditions of the Adobe Enterprise Term License Agreement.
Note: When using shared devices, please make sure that you log out of your Adobe account at the end of your work!

The following groups of people (excluding medical faculty) are entitled to use this service:
- Employee
- Professor
- Research assistant
- Visiting scientist
- Student assistant
- Lecturer
- Junior professor
- Substitute professor
Please note: If you have only recently been assigned one of these groups of persons, the assignment currently takes about one week.

- Check under "University affiliation" to see which person group you belong to

Deployment: Download under Acrobat Pro DC
Activation: You can log in directly in the application with "uniKIM-ID@uni-koeln.de". You will be redirected directly to our well-known authentication service. The license will be assigned to you automatically.
Please note, there are currently no Adobe Document Cloud services available. This includes the applications for smartphones and tablets!

Information about Adobe Stock at the University of Cologne
Since 19.02.2024, Adobe Stock has been activated in Named User License subscriptions of the Adobe Creative Cloud for members of the UoC (see ETLA rental licenses above).
Adobe Stock is a stock media repository from which images, vector graphics and much more can be obtained.
All media included in the subscription can be used by UoC employees at no additional cost in compliance with the license entitlements for educational institutions.
Furthermore, the general notes on licensed image use must be observed, especially regarding source references in editorial articles.
